Last Friday we attended the Opening of a dozen small paintings by students in the school district's Summer Mural Program, including our son Patrick. It was held at a small, cozy coffee shop and I spoke with the owner. We arranged a show of a few of my paintings for October. This week I worked hard on the sea shore painting...the beauty of the sunrise and subjects are very motivating. Corresponded with the Violette de Mazia Foundation.

Worked to make sure I have everything for my October show: bought materials for 3 more frames, wrote a short poem and flyer, finished some older paintings with varnish. Felt bad that I could not find enough time to work on my painting in progress.
Friday, August 24, 2007
Visited the coffee shop where 5 of my paintings will be shown in October. Brought the paintings and flyer and spoke with the nice woman in charge for an hour, deciding where the paintings should hang, etc. Touched up a few paintings, and cut the wood for 3 more frames.

With our home filled with children anxious to start school in a week I felt I should postpone meticulous work. Finished assembling the 3 frames for October's show. Gave out a few flyers. Corresponded with Agora Gallery in NYC.

With the quiet that the school year provided I finished the painting of a sea shore moment. As far as capturing the ambiance of the moment and the likeness of those involved it is one of my favorites...probably some of the reasons why an artist's "favorites" are not always the public's "favorites". Unfortunately, this newest painting will not be dry in time for my October show. I will 'unveil' it with news about the October Opening at the coffee shop.
Responded to an invitation to renew our membership to the Philadelphia Museum of Art by mailing a letter and Musings book.

Spent a day looking through old sketch books and art books. Spent other days making and preparing 2 more panels, framing the paintings for the Opening, making 'poem flyers' and a way to hold them for the show.
Added my latest painting, "Some?", to this site, unveiling it with a Newsletter that encouraged seeing my October show.
Friday, September 28, 2007
Finished all the loose ends for my show next Friday. Printed and bound 4 more copies of Musings.
Worked on a small still life painting.
Friday, October 5, 2007
Hung 5 paintings at 1shot, and am ready for First Friday this afternoon. Made sketches from a Mall.
Had a nice, but uneventful, afternoon with Lorna at the First Friday Opening of my show "Couples" at 1 Shot Coffee. Emailed Art Matters, our local Art magazine. Finished 2 still life paintings. Began efforts towards a more "main stream" book of my work.

A full week! Sent out a Newsletter to unveil my 2 new still life paintings, and received some nice responses. Visited 1shot and spoke about future shows. They offered me space for December and January. Bought wood for a few frames for the December group. Worked hard on formatting pages for/with a publisher.

Made a 'spooky' art movie for halloween and unveiled it by VideoEmail. Then posted it on our video web page. Began making frames for the five paintings in my December show at 1 shot coffee. Worked on my new book.

Very tired at the end of this week - assembled 5 frames for my December show (still need varnishing) and spent hours upon hours completing my new book, which went to the publisher yesterday. Ordered one copy for ourselves, to check it through. Should be available to the public soon.

My book, 100 Oil Paintings by Charles Keenan, became available from Lulu Publishers.
Finished framing 5 paintings for my upcoming Decemeber show at 1 Shot Coffee, and finished an accompanying poem.
Well, last week was the first Journal entry I have ever missed, due to the holiday and the excitement surrounding my book. On Thursday (Thanksgiving) I gave a few near and far neighbors a flyer for my upcoming show, a card for my new book, and a homemade pumpkin pie. I showed the first copy of the book to friends of over 30 years during dinner at a restaurant Friday evening. On Sunday morning I showed my book to fellow Sunday School teachers and made my first sale (oh-oh, money changers in the temple...) On Thanksgiving my daughter and I went to our city's parade, and this week I have made sketches and an on-panel drawing based on the experience. During this week I was invited by UArts to attend a 2 hour presentation on copyrights. The seminar was given on the 12th floor of Philadelphia's newest skyscraper.

Early in the week I brought the paintings for my show "Seasonal Runways" to 1 Shot Coffee and hung them, together with a short poem, for First Friday...which will be later today. Began painting a scene from the Thanksgiving Day parade that I had been to with my daughter.
Friday, December 14, 2007
First Friday at 1 Shot Coffee was good with visitors, paintings and my new book. Lorna and I went to an exhibit of Renoir landscapes at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Continued painting the scene from Thanksgiving.

'Twas the week before Christmas...and so many places to go...George's violin recital on Saturday, a chorale performance on Sunday, our sons' Winter concert at school on Thursday...and then our tree, which looks bare (but loved) in this photo, but which should look very festive for next week's entry.
However, I did make significant progress in my painting from the parade...and sold one of my books during a visit to our daughter's school.
Merry Christmas to all !

I knew our tree would look better !
Well, with Christmas on Tuesday there wasn't much that could be done towards painting...mostly visits, singing, Mass and gifts...one gift I received was a book of Thomas Kinkaid paintings...but I did manage to get my work ready for Saturday when I will get last month's paintings from 1 Shot Coffee and put up 5 new ones for January.
